Georgia Ranch Consulting

Bringing Design & Systems Thinking together to solve complex problems so you can do more of what you love: helping people.

I get excited about building capacity in non-profits, public sector initiatives, and social enterprises. I actually like budgets and spreadsheets. If I can take messy but crucial data and turn it into something beautiful that makes funders say, "I want to give money to that!", I'll call it a good week. I thrive off of turning chaos into results.

I am an overhead evangelist. I spread the gospel of the Overhead Myth and educate donors, funders, agencies, and the public on how overhead spending is critical to nonprofit survival. Far from superfluous, robust investment in sustainability is the only way to make sure nonprofits are around for years to come and can help those who need it most.

"We don't want our generation's epitaph to read 'we kept charity overhead low', we want it to say 'we changed the world'" πŸ‘‡ see more in Dan Palotta's video below

Why Unicorns?

I am inspired by the work of thought leader Vu Le, who refers to everyone who works in the nonprofit sector as "Nonprofit Unicorns". I like that this implies we are at once magical creatures but also that there are many of us. The nonprofit sector can be hectic, stressful, and burnout inducing. Calling myself a nonprofit unicorn is just one of the ways I remind myself and others that we can't take everything so seriously. There must be room for the gravity of all that we seek to fix in the world and the levity of playfulness.

Why Georgia Ranch?

The name is a nod to my great grandmother who passed away a few years ago. She inspired me with her strength and it is an honor to do business under her name.

My presentation on Wednesday went so well, thank you to everyone who attended and asked great questions! I loved spreading the allocation message to more nonprofits so they can use it to get more of their operations funded. Thanks, NAWA for making this possible!
